🛡️ EVERY KID DESERVES TO BE SAFE HERE.
This week we sent our child safeguarding framework to every registered
participant, parent, coach and volunteer through Rugby Xplorer. Were posting
it publicly as well, because a set of policies nobody has been pointed to
isnt doing its job.
── WHAT WE HAVE IN PLACE ──
Three documents are published and available to everyone: our Child Safety
Commitment Statement, our Child Safety Policy, and the MPIO Position
Description. The club endorses and follows the Rugby Australia Child and Young
Person Safeguarding Policy, and our Commitment Statement is reviewed annually
by the Committee.
── BLUE CARDS: NO CARD, NO START ──
This is the bit that might need action from you. Anyone in a child-related
role at the club — committee members, coaches, team managers, regular
volunteers — must hold a valid Queensland Blue Card, linked to the Club,
BEFORE they start.
Theyre free for volunteers. Apply or link an existing card at
qld.gov.au/bluecard, then let the Secretary know so we can update the register.
Not sure whether your role needs one, or whether your card is linked to us?
Just ask. Wed rather check than assume.
── IF SOMETHING ISNT RIGHT ──
You have options, and you dont need the clubs permission to use any of them.
• Talk to someone here — Andrew Couper is our Child Safety Officer and Member
Protection Information Officer, and Phil Verheijen is President. It is not
your job to decide whether something is serious enough. Its your job to
share the concern.
• Report through Rugby Australia — including the Speak Up platform, run
independently by Core Integrity, where concerns involving children can be
reported completely anonymously and without involving the club at all.
• Contact authorities directly, any time. In an emergency call 000. Queensland
Child Safety Services is 1800 811 810. Policelink is 131 444.
🔗 Everything, including the policies and all reporting pathways:

🔗 Rugby AU child safety:
australia.rugby/about/codes-and-policies/child-safety
Were not posting this because anything has gone wrong. Were posting it so
every family at this club knows these protections exist and how to use them.
Thanks for helping us keep the Knights a safe place for every kid who runs out
for us.

A huge congratulations to our Knights boys Zoro & Lennox from our U14s and Sam from our U15s on their selection into the Emerging Reds!An incredible achievement and a reflection of the hard work, commitment and dedication these boys continue to put into their rugby. We are incredibly proud to see our Knights representing at the next level and are so excited to watch their rugby journeys continue.Achievements like this are also a great inspiration to our other Knights, showing them what can be possible when you work hard, stay committed and keep chasing your goals. Well deserved, boys! Your Knights family is incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see what the future holds ⚔️OWTK⚔️

And a Rayner in there as well. Any relation to the great club Rayners ?

Brilliant

⚔️ SUPPORT LOUD. SUPPORT HARD. KEEP IT RESPECTFUL.
Following the Code of Conduct reminder we sent this week to every member,
player and junior family through Rugby Xplorer — and again in this weeks
KnightWatch newsletter — were posting it here as well, so it reaches
absolutely everyone connected with the club.
Finals rugby is emotional. Games are tight, calls go against us, and the
stakes feel bigger. Thats exactly when standards matter most.
🔴 PLAYERS — Respect the decision. Let the captain do the talking. Opponents
for eighty minutes, rugby people for the rest of it.
🔴 SUPPORTERS — Back your team hard. Dont abuse anyone elses. Stay behind
the barrier and off the field of play.
🔴 OFFICIALS — Referees, touch judges and ground marshals are volunteers, and
plenty of them are kids. Without them, none of us get a game. There is no
version of a bad call that justifies abusing an official.
🔴 IF ASKED — If a Ground Marshal or club official asks you to move or tone it
down, please do it. Take it up with the Committee afterwards, not on the
sideline.
── THE RUGBY AU GUIDES ──
Weve attached Rugby Australias own Code of Conduct guides for players,
spectators, and coaches, managers and club officials. Two minutes each, and
worth a read whichever one applies to you.
Weve also included the Three Strike Policy. In Rugby AUs words, it exists to
promote safe and supportive environments for everyone involved in community
rugby and it places the onus on CLUBS — not just individuals — to make sure
the environment at their ground is safe and suitable for everyone. Every club
in this competition is bound by it. Its worth all of us understanding how it
works.
── SEE SOMETHING? REPORT IT ──
You can raise a concern with any committee member, or lodge it directly with
Rugby Australia. Concerns involving children can be reported anonymously,
without involving the club at all.

The Committee is also considering a GU Knights Code of Conduct at its next
meeting — our own club version in plain English. Well publish it once its
adopted.
Weve built something good here. Lets make sure thats what people remember
about us.
Support loud. Support hard. Keep it respectful.
